Aubusson Tapestry : The Great Lady Collection
YMER&MALTA / Sylvain Rieu-Piquet
2019
« (…) A mossy yet mineral rug; water gushing from a rocky crevice or from compacted ice down the green slopes, announcing the arrival of summer.»
Bruno Ythier – Chief Curator at the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie d’Aubusson
The weave on this rug combines small and larger stitches with false chain weave and classical weave, making for a blend of textures that give the impression of moving water and its reflections in mountainous surroundings.
A simple wood and ceramic bisque stool completes the piece like a stone resting on the water, creating its own little world.
This piece was presented at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris during Valérie Maltaverne’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres Award ceremony.
